There is another framing to this. Parliament (Westminster system) is fundamentally unable to accommodate, uphold or enact the internationally recognised partnership aspects of Tiriti o Waitangi. Don't keep blaming Maori or elected representatives. It is the parliamentary system that needs to change. The requirement to request permission to conduct a karakia or powhiri or to enact the most basic principles of tikanga are the most recent glaring examples. The shame is ours.

Protocols: Maori have them, our Parliament system has them. Perhaps some respect BOTH ways wouldn't go amiss. The shame is NOT 'ours'. Lets have some common courtesy and follow the protocols of the respective meeting places.
